DHHB in sun care: safe or questionable?
Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, DHHB for short, is a UV filter widely used in cosmetics. It effectively protects the skin from harmful UV rays and thus contributes to the prevention of skin damage and premature skin ageing. DHHB is known for its high tolerance and may be used in cosmetic products in concentrations of up to 10%. In our product Re-charge Sun we use DHHB in a safe concentration of 5%.
Some reports have addressed possible contamination of DHHB by phthalates such as DnHexP. However, it is important to know that phthalates are strictly prohibited in cosmetic products. Our laboratory and external testing laboratories carry out thorough checks on each batch to ensure that no contamination is present.
The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) has confirmed that the probability of adverse health effects from sunscreens containing DHHB is very low and that there is no reliable evidence of relevant contamination.
Thanks to strict regulations and the exclusive use of ingredients with the highest safety standards, the risk of contamination is extremely low and you can rest assured that we always guarantee the highest quality and safety for your skin – your beauty and well-being are our top priority.
